Big thank you to DTZ

Since Shelter became DTZ’s corporate charity partner in September 2008, the company's employees have raised more than £100,000 towards our work with people in housing need.

With the current recession many more people are losing their homes through repossession and the demand for Shelter’s services is increasing rapidly:

  • 1 in 7 children in Britain are currently growing up homeless or in bad housing
  • In 2008, Shelter experienced a year on year increase of 460% in calls to our Helpline
  • Currently, a house is repossessed every 8 minutes
  • 1.8 million people are currently on council house waiting lists throughout the UK

Louise Parkes, Director of Fundraising at Shelter, said:

'We are delighted that DTZ has raised more than £100,000 through lots of varied and engaging fundraising  activities, most recently with 30 employees taking on the challenge of Vertical Rush –  Shelter’s stair-running event at Tower 42.

'This money helps Shelter continue its vital work in alleviating the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing. We at Shelter are truly grateful for DTZ’s continued support and enthusiasm.'

"We were impressed by Shelter both as an organisation and its hands on and proactive approach to tackling homelessness and its root causes. With our strong regional network of UK offices we hope to make a real difference for this national charity."
