In April 2008, Metro and Shelter embarked on a Charity of the Year partnership which ran for a year raising thousands of pounds for Shelter through fundraising events such as sports days, taking part in our nationwide Cake Time event, book and beauty sales and Wear Red for Shelter days.
Since then, our partnership has gone from strength to strength – they have continued to support us by donating almost £80,000 of free advertising space including our fantastic ‘Thank you’ page that is used annually to acknowledge the wonderful support that companies give Shelter at Christmas.
Plus, Metro helped us launch a nationwide competition offering budding artists the chance to display their work alongside the biggest names in British art including Damien Hirst, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. Shelter invited 51 of the country’s top artists to design a playing card for a unique exhibition as part of our award winning House of Cards campaign. The final card for the pack was chosen from entries sent in by Metro readers. All pieces of art were auctioned off and raised more than £100,000.
