Introduction to Benefit rates 2013/14
Figures used to calculate applicable amounts, treatment of capital, disregards and deductions relevant to a claimant for the calculation of her/his entitlement to housing benefit in the year 2013/14.
These figures come into effect as follows:
- Monday 1 April 2013 - where rent is payable monthly or at any interval which is not a week or multiples of a week
- Monday 1 April 2013 - where rent is payable at intervals of a week or multiples of a week.

The 2013 uprating for the other income related benefits - Income Support (IS), income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA(IB)), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA(IR)) and State Pension Credit (PC) - and the majority of other social security benefits take effect on Monday 8 April 2013.
From 15 April 2013, a benefit cap will start to be introduced. This is a limit on the total amount of benefit that working age claimants can receive. For more information on the benefit cap see the page on Calculation overview.
