Fancy yourself as a rock star?

A man playing air guitar

It’s time to dig out that spandex jumpsuit - Shelter is offering you the chance to become a champion air guitarist and perform on the John Peel stage at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

Shelter has built a red house in the John Peel field at Glastonbury, inside which wanabee rock stars can step into the musical spotlight and have fifteen seconds to play their air guitar riffs.

For the first time, Shelter will be using groundbreaking technology so your power chords will actually be heard, recorded and re-played on big screens by the side of the stage.

A shortlist of the top performers will then vie it out for the title of air guitar champion on the John Peel stage in front of thousands of fans, with the winner getting their hands on a signed Fender guitar.

Visit Shelter in the John Peel field, and you will also have the chance to find out more about our campaign for more affordable housing, and how you can get involved.

This is the first year  we have worked with the John Peel stage, but the relationship is a fitting legacy to the great man who was a committed Shelter supporter throughout his life. Proceeds from his will, his tribute concert and John Peel Day were all donated to our work with people in housing need, and Shelter is very proud to be re-kindling this relationship.

Hazel Parsons, Shelter’s National Campaigns manager said: 'We’re really excited to be working with the John Peel field at this year’s Glastonbury, and playing host to the festival’s first air guitar championship!

'This is also a fantastic opportunity for Shelter to highlight the current housing crisis to Glastonbury festival goers, and we’re urging all aspiring rock stars to come and try their hand at air guitar and sign up to Shelter’s new campaign.'
