Five Shelter supporters who dub themselves 'The Midlife Cyclists' will be setting off by bike for Spain on 19 May 2010 to raise money for our work with people in housing need.

The gruelling 800-mile journey will start at Santander’s UK headquarters in London, going via Legal & General’s head office in Kingswood and finishing 10 days later at their Spanish headquarters in Santander.

The team includes key figures from the Financial Services industry: Ben Thompson (Director, Mortgages at Legal & General) and John Phillips (Financial Services Director at Kinleigh, Folkard & Hayward).

Legal & General logoBen Thompson at Legal & General said: 'We aim to raise some money for good causes and support Legal & General’s corporate partner, Shelter, but we wanted to look for another way to do this other than run a marathon. Cycling 100 miles is the equivalent of running a marathon, so we are effectively completing eight marathons back-to-back!

'It’s going to be very tough, but we are training hard and preparing thoroughly. We’re aiming to raise £10,000 for Shelter and we’re sure that we’ll be able to achieve this if we can get the whole mortgage industry behind us.'

Shelter is a preferred charity for both Legal & General and Santander. Money raised will go towards our advice services, free housing advice helpline, legal services and campaigning work.
