Peel's legacy lives on

02 May 2008

John Peel.

The John Peel Field will be supporting Shelter at this year's Glastonbury festival. The field, which promotes new music, will help raise awareness of our work with displays, films and messages from the stage.

John Peel was a committed Shelter supporter throughout his life, and proceeds from his Will, the John Peel Tribute Concert and John Peel Day all went towards our work with homeless and badly housed people.

Julian Spear, co-ordinator of the John Peel Field, said: 'we know our audience will be receptive to the messages Shelter wants to get across and we're sure they will be supportive of the charity's involvement. And I think I can confidently say that John would have approved too.'

Adam Sampson, Shelter's chief executive, added: 'the man himself was always very vocal about his support of Shelter and our work so clearly there is a great synergy between our two organisations, and a chance to continue the legacy.

We hope this is the rebirth of a relationship that will last for many Glastonbury festivals to come.'
