Stars turn out for private view

Jane Asher and Gerald Scarfe

A host of artists and celebrities joined Shelter to celebrate the launch of our House of Cards exhibition last night at an exclusive private view held at the Haunch of Venison gallery in London.

The gallery was packed out with guests who came to sneak a peak at the stunning collection of artwork based on playing cards from the deck.

Roisin Murphy, Tamara Beckwith, Jane Asher and Gerald Scarfe (pictured), Miles Aldridge, Stephen Webster, Sophie Conran, Ella Doran and Polly Morgan were among those who attended the star-studded event.

Sam Younger opened the evening with a speech highlighting the message behind the House of Cards campaign: the depth of Britain’s housing crisis. Tom Hunter, creator of the Queen of Diamonds card, then took up the mic and described how honoured he felt to be part of such a unique and creative project.

Over the course of the evening, several silent bids were placed on the artwork, which will be auctioned off on Monday evening in aid of Shelter.

Individual pieces have been valued at between £100 and £10,000, with pieces by Damien Hirst and Marc Quinn expected to reach even more.

Watch this space to find out how much was raised!

Limited edition packs of the cards are available in our online shop
