Government gets a D minus

Shelter supporter dressed as a schoolmaster

Shelter ‘schoolmasters’ handed out special back-to-school report cards to Treasury and CLG officials this morning, awarding them a D minus in the subject ‘children in bad housing.’

The schoolmasters handed a report card to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears, and even left one on former Housing Minister Caroline Flint’s car.

Shelter decided to hand out the report cards to highlight the fact that the Government is still failing children who are trapped in bad housing.

New research shows that a quarter of children will at some point live in overcrowded accommodation, housing which is in a poor state of repair, or homes that have inadequate heating.
