In its first budget of June 2010, the new UK government announced changes to Local Housing Allowance (LHA), which are welfare payments that help tenants with low incomes pay their rent. This research examines the effects of the changes on around one million tenants in private rented housing in Britain whose housing is supported by LHA.

Summary
This independent research was carried out by the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research (CCHPR) and funded by Shelter.
CCHPR’s first report examines the impact of the LHA cuts on poverty, forced moves and homelessness. The second report – presented here in a preliminary and full report form - examines the impact of these cuts on the affordability of neighbourhoods in London.
