Shelter submitted a memorandum for the ODPM Select Committee's Inquiry into the role and effectiveness of the Housing Corporation in February 2004.
Summary
Shelter regards it is as essential that the Housing Corporation exercises more effective regulation of housing associations as regards:
- lettings policy, particularly in relation to applicants nominated by local authorities as being in priority housing need
- management of tenancies and the need to pursue all other avenues before seeking possession
- balancing business case decisions on management issues with the needs and circumstances of individual residents and potential residents.
The memorandum also comments upon the investment priorities of the Housing Corporation.
