Where do you run your training?

We currently offer public training programmes in central London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and York. Please refer to the 'training venues' pages for location maps and more details about facilities.

If your organisation has six or more staff to train on a particular subject, why not take advantage of our popular, cost-effective, in-house training service? This service can deliver training at a time and location of your choice. See the 'in-house training' page for details.

How will I know if a course is appropriate for my needs?

All our courses are graded as introductory, intermediate or advanced level. You can search for courses by level, category or keyword on the 'find a course' page. If you are still unsure if a course is right for you, please call our Training Administrator on 0844 515 1155.

Do delegates gain a qualification for attending your courses?

All delegates receive a certificate of attendance. Many of our courses last for one or two days, and are aimed at professionals already working in the housing field, so they do not provide any qualifications. However, the vast majority of our courses are accredited for CPD purposes by a number of professional bodies.

How do I book a course?

If you want to book a place on a course at our venues in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester or York you can either download a booking form to return to us by fax or post, or search for a course and book online.

If you want to book an in-house course to be delivered to a group of staff at a venue of your choice, you can download a training request form or email inhousetraining@shelter.org.uk

What information will I receive?

We will send written confirmation and joining instructions to the delegate within 10 working days of receiving your booking. This will include a course programme, a venue map and an invoice (if applicable). Please contact us on 0844 515 1155 if you do not receive this.

If you would like your invoice sent to an alternative address, please give details in the Questions/Comments box at the bottom of the online booking form.

How do I pay?

We accept payments by cheque, credit card or BACS transfer. Although we prefer payment in advance, if you book online we will invoice you on the understanding that prompt payment will follow.

Do I qualify for the concessionary rate?

Our concessionary rate applies to small voluntary-sector projects/organisations and registered charities with fewer than 10 employed staff, and CLS advice and law centres. Please refer to the 'Rates and discounts' page or call our Training Administrator on 0844 515 1155 if you have any queries.

Can I attend a course as an individual rather than as an employee?

Yes, as long as you are confident that the course will be appropriate for your needs. Please call our Training Administrator on 0844 515 1155 to discuss course suitability and payment options.

What happens if I want to transfer or cancel my booking?

If you are attending a course at one of our training venues, a £25 administration fee will be charged for all cancellations and transfers. For transfers made fewer than 10 working days before the course commences the fee charged will be £50. For courses cancelled fewer than 10 working days before the course commences, the full fee will be payable.

For further details, please refer to our Terms and Conditions or contact our Training Administrator on 0844 515 1155.

When do courses start and end?

All courses at our venues start at 10am and finish at approximately 4.30pm with an hour's break for lunch. Refreshments are available from 9.30am and we ask you to arrive in time for registration at 9.45am.

Is lunch included?

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided at morning and afternoon breaks. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to provide lunch on our courses. However, all of our venues are located close to a range of food outlets.

Does the venue have good access facilities?

All of our venues are DDA compliant and have full wheelchair access and hearing aid loops. If you have any specific access requirements, please let us know before the start of the course.

Is there any parking at the venue?

Our London venue does have limited parking available. However, we are unable to reserve spaces and the venue is within the Congestion Charge zone. Unfortunately there is no parking available at our Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and York venues, although there are car parks close by. Please refer to the maps on the 'training venues' pages for details.
