Course booking terms and conditions

1. Venue and timings

London courses are held at 4 Garrett Street, London EC1Y OTY (nearest tube: Old Street on the Northern Line, or Barbican on the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines). All courses run from 10am – 4.30pm with an hour for lunch. Note: We do not provide lunch on our courses.

2. Booking and payment

You can book online and pay securely by credit card or request an invoice.

Alternatively, download and complete a course booking form and return it by fax/post if you are paying by credit card, or by post if you are paying by cheque.

Full payment is required 10 working days prior to the start of the course. In the event that full payment has not been received, we reserve the right to refuse your attendance on the course. Please note: as of 1 October 2014 all training bookings are subject to VAT at 20%.

3. Special offers

10% multiple booking discount: make three or more bookings and receive a 10% discount. This applies to bookings made at the same time, by the same authorising manager.

4. Confirmation and joining instructions

We will send you written confirmation and joining instructions within 10 working days of receiving your booking. This will include a course programme and venue map. Please contact us if you do not receive this..

If you don't hear from us within 10 working days of making your booking, please contact us on 0344 515 1155 or at training@shelter.org.uk.

5. Waiting lists

If the course is full, we will inform you that we have placed you on the waiting list and will contact you if a space becomes available. We will not process your payment unless your place is confirmed, or you have advised us of another date that you wish to attend.

6. Delegate cancellations

Once you have booked your course you will be subject to a £35 cancellation charge if you advise us of your cancellation request in writing, at least 11 working days before the start date. The full course fee will be forfeited if a cancellation is made less than 11 working days prior to the course commencing. You are welcome to send a colleague in your place at no additional cost.

7. Delegate transfers

If you wish to transfer to another course or a later date a £35 transfer fee will apply, if notification is received in writing more than 11 working days prior to your original course start date. If notification is received in writing less than 11 working days prior to the course commencing, a £60 fee will be payable.

8. Course cancellations

Shelter Training reserves the right to cancel courses up to 10 working days before the start date. Regrettably, if we do have to cancel a course we cannot refund any expenses incurred, e.g. travel tickets or accommodation costs. We will refund your course fee.

9. Course fees

Concessionary rate (Con) applies to local authorities, registered charities, CLS advice and law centres.
Standard rate (Std) applies to housing associations and other social landlords, statutory organisations, including HM Prisons, academic institutions and health services.
Commercial rate (Com) applies to all commercial organisations including barristers and solicitors in private practice.

Please note: as of 1 October 2014 all training bookings are subject to VAT at 20%.

Please note: All our training venues are fully accessible by wheelchair. Hearing-aid loops and training notes in larger print format are available if requested prior to the course start date.

Conference and seminar booking terms and conditions

1. Conference and seminar information

Contact us if you need more information about the event, fees or availability. Please note that start and finish times may vary between events so you should check the event outline carefully.

2. Booking and payment

You can book online using a credit card or we can invoice you on the understanding that prompt payment will follow.

Alternatively, download and complete a booking form and return it by fax/post if you are paying by credit card, or by post if you are paying by cheque.

Where possible, payment should accompany your booking form. Please send a cheque, or include credit card details or a BACS remittance.

The full course fee will still apply if a cancellation is made less than 11 working days prior to the course commencing. However you are welcome to send a colleague in your place at no additional cost.

All cancellation and transfer requests must be made in writing to the training administrator.

5. Fees

Please note that the fee payable may vary between conferences and seminars. For details of the fee payable for your event, check the outline or contact us. As of 1 October 2014 all training bookings are subject to VAT at 20%.

Terms and conditions of sale

1. VAT

Our publications are VAT-free.

2. Delivery information

Publications will be delivered within 10 working days of Shelter receiving full payment for the goods or from the time of publication if a pre-order has been received.  

3. Returns policy

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it to us in its original condition, within 14 days of the delivery date.

To return an item, please make sure that you wrap the package securely, enclosing a note giving the reason for the return, and send it to the return address detailed below.

In the case of defective items please wrap the package securely, enclosing a note detailing a full description of the fault, and send it to the return address detailed below.

If you return goods as detailed within 14 days, we will issue a full refund for the price that you paid for the items.

4. Rights to cancel

Under the United Kingdom's Distance Selling Regulations, you have the right to cancel the contract for the purchase of any Shelter Publication within 7 working days of delivery.

To cancel this contract, please tick the 'Cancellation of Contract' box on the despatch note. This note should be sent to us, along with the goods that you are returning, within 7 working days of the date the goods being delivered to you, to the following address;

Please package items securely. Please note that you will be responsible for the cost of returning the goods to us unless they are faulty or were delivered to you in error.

Once we have received notice of cancellation, we will refund the purchase price of the item/s.
