An overview of the housing rights of people from Europe and further afield who arrive in the UK to work. Delegates will look at the legal framework that regulates the rights of workers from abroad to access social housing. Participants will examine the rights of specific groups and will also consider problem areas.

- Work permits, Highly Skilled Migrant Programme and the new 'tiered' system for workers from abroad
- EEA and EU rules on work, work seekers and family members
- Worker Registration Scheme and A8 nationals
- New rules for Bulgarians and Romanians in 2007
- Eligibility for allocation and homelessness services
- What happens when workers lose their jobs, are unable to work or face family breakdown
- Case law in all relevant areas
- Case studies
Learning outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:
- Understand how European law works in relation to housing rights
- Understand eligibility for European migrants
- Advise migrants appropriately.
Suitable for
Advisers, policy makers, and housing providers who need to know about the practical consequences of legislative and procedural change. This course is designed for people with experience in housing, and a good basic knowledge of the framework of housing provision is assumed.
