Course location:

This course will provide experienced practitioners with an update on case law and other developments regarding homelessness and allocations.

Course contains

Recent case law legislative developments in the following areas:

  • Prevention of homelessness
  • Eligibility for assistance
  • Vulnerability
  • Intentional homelessness
  • Discharge of duties / suitability of accommodation
  • Local connection
  • Reviews and appeals
  • Links with the Children Acts and community care provision.

Learning outcomes

After this course, you will be able to:

  • Take account of actual or impending changes in legislation or regulation
  • Identify current legal and policy issues affecting homeless persons and those in housing need
  • Examine the impact of recent case law.

Housing advisers and caseworkers, lawyers, housing and homelessness officers, other local authority staff and managers who have a good working knowledge of housing law and practice.
