Housing and Homelessness: An Induction

This course examines the history of housing and homelessness and trends in housing provision.
Delegates will explore the causes of homelessness, look at the housing options available and identify the main duties owed to homeless people by local authorities.

- Brief history of housing tenure in Britain
- Housing options and barriers to access
- Overview of homelessness legislation and local authority duties
Learning outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:
- Understand historical and current trends in provision of housing in the UK
- Understand security of tenure afforded to tenants of councils, Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) and private landlords/li>
- Identify how homeless people have been 'dealt with', from the nineteenth century to the present day
- Understand fundamental concepts involved in homelessness law and current emphasis on prevention.
Suitable for
People who work for a housing organisation but have limited contact with housing work, eg. receptionists, customer service officers, administrators and fundraisers. This course is ideal as part of an induction process.
