Security of Tenure in Social Housing
This course examines tenancy types that commonly arise in social housing which are not covered on our ‘Foundation in Housing Law and Advice’ course.

- Starter tenancies.
- Tenancy Demotion.
- Family Intervention Tenancies.
- Localism Act 2011:
- flexible tenancies
- fixed term assured shorthold tenancies. - Issues under 1998 Human Rights Act.
- Issues under 2010 Equality Act.
Learning outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:
- Advise introductory, family intervention, starter and demoted tenants about possession proceedings and defences.
- Describe the key issues relating to flexible tenancies and fixed term assured shorthold tenancies.
- Identify potential human rights and equality defences to possession claims
