Young People, Housing and Homelessness

Course location:
Participants will gain a working knowledge of youth homelessness and the legislative frameworks available to assist young people. The course provides an understanding of how the legislation can be used as a platform to develop better-integrated services for all young people in housing need.
Course contains
- Levels, patterns and trends of young single homelessness
- Relevant homelessness legislation including the Homelessness Act 2002
- The priority-need categories and the assessment of vulnerability
- The potential role of the Children Act 1989
- The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000
- Constructive meshing of the legislation - developing protocols
- The importance of homelessness strategies appropriately reflecting the needs of young people and promoting better joint working
Suitable for
Anyone who gives housing advice to young people, and needs to understand young people's rights and the legislative basis for service provision.
