This course outlines a three-stage approach for using basic counselling skills with service users, as well as looking at boundaries for personal involvement and managing stress.
Course contains
- What is meant by the terms 'counselling', 'coaching' and 'befriending'
- How the principles and skills of counselling can be applied to supporting vulnerable tenants
- Elements of good practice in counselling that support service users to move towards independence
- A three-stage approach to using basic counselling skills with service users
- Communication, listening, questioning and feedback skills to involve service users in assessment and planning
- How to draw boundaries to your personal involvement and manage your own stress levels
- How to evaluate your own skills and further development through self-assessment and action planning.
Suitable for
Anyone within the advice or housing sectors who work closely with clients, but is not a trained counsellor.
