This aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the benefit and tax credit system and to enable participants to advise clients affected by domestic violence on their entitlement to benefits and tax credits. 

Course contains

  • Overview of the welfare benefits system - identifying the range of benefits available to people affected by domestic violence; how to claim; identifying problem areas and how to challenge decisions
  • Focus on benefits that can be claimed for illness or disability
  • Focus on benefits for those with little or no income; working out which benefits to claim; how to meet the rules; how much you might be paid and payments for emergencies
  • Getting help to pay housing costs; dealing with temporary absence payments that need to be made on more than one home
  • A brief introduction to Working Tax and Child Tax credit.
