Rights and Remedies for Clients in Debt

This course focuses on identifying some of the common rights and remedies available to people with debts to ensure appropriate referral for specialist debt advice.
Course contains
- Insolvency procedures: bankruptcy, debt relief orders, administration orders
- Using complaints processes to assist people in debt
- Identifying danger signs including old debts and time limits for actions
- Obtaining necessary information including credit agreements and statements.
Learning outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the essential elements of debt advice and how to work with other agencies
- Know the key elements of the Limitation Act 1980 in debt work, and refer clients appropriately
- Recognise the importance of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 in debt work
- Identify the importance of time limits and procedures to protect debtors in the county court process
- Examine the key elements of the four insolvency procedures: bankruptcy, debt relief orders, administration orders and individual voluntary arrangements.
