The Children Acts

This course outlines the underlying philosophy of the Act and the potential assistance available to young people and families in housing need. Delegates will review the changes introduced by successive amending legislation and the duties inherent in the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000.

- Private law elements relevant to relationship breakdown
- Review of the key public law elements relevant to people in housing need
- Obtaining a 'child in need' assessment
- S.17 payments and reform of s.17(6)
- S.20 and the court’s interpretation of inherent duties
- Increasing expectations of the Children Act responsiveness to homelessness
- Duties under the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000
- Advocacy and the complaints procedure.
Suitable for
People working in any capacity with young people and/or families in the voluntary or statutory sectors. Participants need little or no knowledge of the legislation.
