The Children Acts: In Practice

Course available: in-house only (on a date and location of your choice)
Duration: 1 day

This course will provide delegates with an opportunity to look at how the Children Act is being interpreted and current case law. Participants will develop an understanding of the 'looked after' system and the variety of strategies available to challenge decisions and will consider how the Children Act, the Leaving Care Act and how the homelessness legislation can be meshed to provide an integrated service for young people in housing need.

  • The 'looked after' system
  • Preparation for leaving care and the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000
  • Reviews, complaints, enforcement, and case law
  • Improving advocacy skills
  • Developing protocols on the meshing of the Children Act with homelessness legislation
  • Working tactically and strategically to improve services.

Suitable for

People working in any capacity with families and/or young people in the statutory or voluntary sectors who have either attended 'The Children Act 1989' course or have a good working knowledge of the legislation.
