Developed in conjunction with a Pupil Development Centre, 'Talk before you walk' is a two-part toolkit for Year Fives.
The first part follows the story of Mel, a nine-year old runaway, aims to increase awareness of the risks involved in running away and who they can turn to for help. For use with the whole class, the toolkit includes an audio CD, teacher's guide, classroom handouts and scenario cards.
The second toolkit is for use with smaller groups of vulnerable or at-risk children, to help them develop positive strategies for dealing with the difficulties they face. Using cards, children focus on their feelings, improve their social skills, and look at concepts of safety and risk. The toolkit contains feelings cards and a facilitator's guide.
A valuable resource for PSHE lessons that's linked to the national literacy strategy for Key Stage 2.
