Greater Manchester Mayoral Campaign
Too often, renting is unaffordable, unstable and unsafe
One in six Greater Manchester households rent, and many are struggling with bad conditions, high rents and the instability of short-term rental contracts. But this May, you’ll elect a new Mayor with new powers to take action on housing.
We need longer rental contracts, rents that people can actually afford and an end to bad conditions – now. That’s why we want all of the mayoral candidates to support our Fix Renting campaign. But we need renters to stand up and speak out for this to happen.
Email the mayoral candidates using our form. We have the solutions to fix renting, but we need to come together to get our voices heard.
As a Shelter supporter I’m concerned about the housing crisis in my area and so I’m urging whoever becomes the next Mayor of our region to put this issue at the top of their agenda.
More and more people are renting in Greater Manchester, especially families. But many are finding it tough.
Many are living in awful conditions, with homes full of mould, damp and vermin. According to Shelter, half of renters in the North West have had problems like this in the last five years. Nobody should have to live like this.
On top of this it’s getting more expensive to rent, and short term contracts are making it hard for people to put down roots and plan for their children’s future.
Everyone needs a safe, affordable and stable place to call home. And Shelter is campaigning to make sure this happens.
Will you join them? I’m calling on you to sign up in support of Shelter’s Fix Renting campaign and be a voice for renters in our area.
It only takes a minute and will show you’re committed to tackling the issue.
