Berkeley Foundation has supported Shelter since November 2011. Berkeley Foundation is funded by the property development company, Berkeley Group.
Berkeley Foundation is the largest single funder of Shelter’s Hackney Family Service. The Foundation has been key to the successful launch of the service in November 2013, and the launch of our new London Hub offices in October 2015.
Berkeley Foundation also funds Shelter’s Fulham Advice service, based in our Shelter shop in Fulham. Previously, Berkeley Foundation has given funding towards our young person’s advice pages on the Shelter website and to the Shelter Helpline.
Berkeley Group employees also raise money for Shelter. In March 2016, over 200 Berkeley Group employees took part in Vertical Rush – raising an incredible £50,000. In February 2016, 19 Berkeley Group offices also donated their un-wanted clothes, books and DVDs to Shelter shops as part of Wardrobe Relief.
The partnership with Shelter has worked well this year. Since the Hackney Family Service Centre opened in October 2015, its holistic approach has really benefitted families in the area who are at risk of homelessness. Shelter evaluation of the service has also informed our analysis and understanding of the positive impact Berkeley Foundation support is achieving.
