Raise money and recycle for Shelter
Shelter is working with ERS Europe to raise money through the donation of mobile phones and used printer cartridges.
Anyone can take part in the scheme. Mobile phones donated to Shelter can raise up to £60 each depending on the model, whilst cartridges are worth up to £2 each.
For individual supporters
Perhaps you’ve recently bought a new phone and are wondering what to do with the old one - or maybe you need to replace your printer cartridge at home and hate to see the old one go to waste. Donate your old items and instead of throwing them away, you can help Shelter support people in housing need.
Best of all, ERS Europe will provide freepost return envelopes to recycle individual items at no cost to you.
For businesses
You can also support Shelter by recycling as a business. For bulky toner cartridges, ERS Europe produce large collection boxes which they will deliver to your workplace, and they will empty them free of charge. You can also request dispensers containing freepost envelopes for anyone wishing to take them home for personal donations.
Getting started
Go to the ERS Europe website to register your details and request collection boxes, envelopes or dispensers.
If your company is already working with Shelter, please contact your account manager to set up a mobile and cartridge recycling scheme.
Questions?
Q. How much money does each phone/cartridge raise?
A. The amount varies depending on the make of cartridge or phone. The maximum donation per cartridge is £2 and mobile phones can raise up to £60.
Q. Do you collect every brand of printer cartridge?
A. Not every single one, no. There are some we can’t accept. For full details on which cartridges are accepted, please email employeefundraising@shelter.org.uk
Q. How much will it cost me to recycle phones/cartridges?
A. Nothing! ERS Europe provide freepost envelopes for small inkjet cartridges and mobile phones, and you can request as many of these as you need. For larger toner cartridges, you may want to request a collection box – ERS Europe can empty this for free once you have collected 20 or more items.
You can also send items in a standard A5 envelope to the following freepost address:
