Comms opportunities
Teams within Shelter's Communications, Policy and Campaigns division offer volunteering opportunities, from one day a week to full-time, and usually for a three-month term.
Volunteers at Shelter have access to the benefits of our training programmes and an opportunity to learn about the range of activities we undertake to help improve the position of people facing problems with housing and homelessness.
Depending on which team you work with, your role may include:
- carrying out and analysing research interviews
- gathering evidence and writing policy reports
- speaking to journalists and gaining media coverage for Shelter
- helping to organise a campaign activity.
Previous volunteers have gone on to gain paid work with Shelter, in Government departments and at other major charities, and this is great experience for anyone serious about a career in one of these disciplines.
We will pay your travel and lunch expenses up to £4 each, and childcare costs to £3.50 per hour and you will be based at our Old Street office. We always interview our volunteers to ensure we both get the most out of a placement.
Look out for specific vacancies or place your interest on record via the application form, and we will contact you if any appropriate vacancies arise. Please tell us on your form which particular area(s) you are most interested in – Research, Policy, Media or Campaigning.
