This section describes the main provisions of the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality Act 2010 repeals and replaces much of the pre-existing discrimination legislation. It is a very large piece of legislation which begins coming into force on 1 October 2010. As different parts of the Act will come into force at different times, certain provisions of previous law remain in force until its full implementation.
