Investigations into eligibility

This content applies to England

A local authority has a duty to investigate an applicant's eligibility for homelessness assistance.

The investigations that a local authority must carry out are the same regardless of whether the applicant is an EEA/EU national or not. There is substantial statutory guidance on how investigations should be carried out. For detailed information, see the page Investigations into eligibility in the section on non-EEA/EU nationals.
