Family in housing need

More people in housing need in Bristol, Bournemouth and Milton Keynes will be helped to find a secure, affordable place to live thanks to a new partnership between the Nationwide Building Society and Shelter.

Longstanding supporters Nationwide are expanding their commitment to Shelter and are helping to fund:

  • Our Homeless to Home project in Bristol, which offers free support services for homeless families making the transition into a settled home and community. It also helps children and young people overcome the disruption and trauma caused by homelessness.
  • Our housing aid centre in Bournemouth, which provides housing and debt advice for more than 2,000 families and individuals throughout Dorset every year.
  • Our housing aid centre in Milton Keynes, which provides advice and advocacy on housing problems. It also offers advice and support at Milton Keynes and Bedford County Court to people facing the prospect of losing their homes.

Shelter is also working closely with Nationwide on issues of mutual interest to identify possible areas of policy development. This presents a great opportunity to help people in housing need in a variety of meaningful ways in the future.

Karen Macvean, Service Manager for Shelter’s Bristol Homeless to Home project, said:

‘We are very grateful to Nationwide for their generous support. This money will make a massive difference to the lives of homeless children in the South West and will enable us to continue our vital services, like the children’s activity club and family drop-in services.

We very much look forward to working with Nationwide in the future so that together we can make sure families facing homelessness in the area get the help and support they desperately need.’
