Grab a designer bargain!

31 October 2011

The Shelter shop in Chatham, Kent, has launched a new range of vintage clothes and is calling on local ‘recessionistas’ to come down and grab a designer bargain.

Already known by many for its retro style, the shop has re-launched with an array of fantastic items all donated by local residents. Recent bargains include a Fendi designer bag worth £2500, which sold for £250, and a MaxMara catsuit which was snapped up for just £50.

While the recession has helped make ‘charity-chic’ more popular, it has also left thousands of families facing the terrifying prospect of losing their home. In Medway alone, 190 households are at serious risk of repossession.

All money raised through Shelter shops across the country helps to fund Shelter’s vital work helping vulnerable families keep a roof over their heads. As little as £10 pays for a family facing homelessness make an emergency call to Shelter’s free housing advice helpline.

Fay Elms, Area Manager for Shelter shops in the South East, says:

‘I am delighted with all the fantastic donations we have received so far, and hope more people in Chatham will support the shop by either coming down to take a look, or having a clear out and bringing along any unwanted items.
‘We hope the new vintage range will be a huge success, particularly among students in the area, and help us raise vital funds to help prevent local families from losing their homes.’
