Tweet your MP about the LHA freeze
Thousands of Shelter campaigners have already signed our petition and emailed their MP about the freeze to Local Housing Allowance (LHA) – a type of housing benefit.
But with the government currently preparing a major budget, now is the time to take our campaign to the next level – by getting on Twitter to turn up the heat. By making our demands publicly, we can make sure this crisis gets the attention it deserves.
Since LHA was frozen in April 2016, rents have continued to rise and people have struggled to stay on top of their housing costs. Unless something changes soon, over a million households could be at risk of homelessness by 2020.
This is because over a million households who claim housing benefit live in an area where there will be a gap between the amount of LHA they can claim, and the cost of renting one of the cheapest homes by 2020.
This is a hidden crisis that demands public attention. The Chancellor must unfreeze LHA payments immediately. MPs can help make this happen.
