What is a fundraising pledge?

By registering for this event you are agreeing to a sponsorship pledge of £80 as an individual participant, or £400 if part of a team. We need all our Sleep Walk for Shelter participants to commit to the fundraising pledge so we can continue to support people facing homelessness and bad housing.

Fundraising tips

Follow our top tips and you’ll become a fundraising legend – guaranteed!

  • Get yourself set up
    First things first, set up an online fundraising page. This is the heart of your fundraising, and where you’ll direct people to. Do this as soon as you’ve signed up so you can focus on hitting your target.
  • Shoot for the moon
    Setting your target above your minimum sponsorship pledge will help you beat it. Set a fundraising target above your £80 pledge (£400 if you’re in a team).
  • Personalise your page
    Personalise your fundraising page with pictures, and explain why you’re taking part in Sleep Walk for Shelter. Fundraisers who personalise their page raise an average of 33% more than those who don’t. It’s a no brainer.
  • Promote your page
    Use your social media networks to share your page and encourage people to sponsor you. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and your email signature are all great places to spread the word.
  • Don’t be shy
    Ask your most generous supporters to donate first. They’ll set the bar high and others tend to donate based on what’s already been given. Thank people publicly, such as tagging them in a post or tweet about how wonderful they are. Don’t forget your friends and family abroad!
  • Set yourself a monthly target
    This can make the grand total seem less daunting and means you won’t leave your fundraising till the last minute.
  • Keep asking
    Busy lives can mean people intend to sponsor you, but simply forget. Don’t be afraid to remind them.
  • Keep going once you’ve taken part
    After the event, be sure to update your page with photos and your time. Let people know they can still donate.
  • Matched giving
    Some companies support their employees’ fundraising activities through matched giving, where they match the amount you raise. Check with your finance or HR department.
