Jason Arday

Londoner Jason Arday is following in the footsteps of comedian and multiple-marathon runner Eddie Izzard this summer by running an awesome 30 marathons in 35 days for Shelter.

Jason, a 25-year-old sports lecturer at Richmond upon Thames College, is pounding the streets of London for Shelter and children’s charity Shooting Stars as part of his aim to raise £250,000 for charity by the age of 50.

He hopes to run each marathon in less than six hours and has got off to a great start, completing the first one on Monday 19 July in 4 hours 13 minutes. Jason said: ‘I was so nervous I couldn’t sleep so I started running at 5am. Piccadilly Circus is so serene at that time, it was quite surreal.

‘My aim is to raise £5,000 but I hope that people will also show their support by joining me for a mile or just waving when I pass.’

Jason was inspired to support Shelter following a visit to a homeless shelter as a teenager. He explains: ‘My mum took me to a homeless shelter when I was 17 and I was surprised to see people my age struggling for something as fundamental as a roof over their head, something I took for granted.

‘I felt I needed to do something to help people by supporting Shelter’s work with homeless and badly housed families.’
