In some areas, there are local organisations that provide good quality second hand furniture, safety-tested appliances and other household items for people on low incomes.

How can a furniture project help?

Furniture projects operate by collecting items donated by local people and will usually be able to deliver them to your home. You usually have to pay something to cover the costs involved but it is much cheaper than buying everything new.

Who can get help in this way?

Many furniture projects can only help if you are on benefits or have a low income. You may have to ask an advice centre, a charity or a community group to put your name forward. If you are already in contact with any organisations like this, ask them if they can put you in contact with a local project.

Alternatively, visit the Furniture Re-use Network website for more information about local furniture projects.

You can also use our directory to find the local council or your nearest housing aid centre or citizens advice bureau. They can tell you whether there is a project in your area or they may know of local charity shops that sell second hand furniture.
