Specialist services such as day centres, outreach teams and night shelters can help if you're sleeping on the streets.

There are lots of different services for people sleeping on the streets. They may be able to help you find somewhere to live or give you practical advice about safety, medical care and claiming benefits. There are also organisations that can help you to keep in contact with family and friends, or help you deal with other problems, such as alcohol, drugs or mental health problems.

Local councils should have plans to ensure that all rough sleepers in their local areas can be brought in off the streets in severe cold weather. Government guidance says that this should happen if weather forecasts predict three or more consecutive nights of a minimum temperature of zero degrees Celsius or lower. However, many councils will take action if one night of exceptionally cold weather is forecast.
