Stars back Shelter at Glastonbury

10 July 2008

This year’s Glastonbury festival was mercifully dry, but Shelter created a big splash with our new partnership with the John Peel field.

Thousands of supporters did their bit for our Now is the Time campaign at Shelter’s specially built little red house!

The late John Peel was a committed Shelter supporter - proceeds from his will, his tribute concert and John Peel Day were all donated to our work with people in housing need - so we were proud to rekindle this relationship by working with the John Peel stage, as a fitting legacy to the great man.

Our cutting-edge campaign film was premiered, and many bands on the John Peel stage, including the Ting Tings, The Cribs, The Futureheads and The Young Knives, supported Shelter’s call to right housing wrongs.

Other celebrities to back the campaign included Michael Eavis, Jo Whiley, Lily Allen and Will Young.

Air guitar frenzy!

Intrepid festival-goers also had the opportunity be a real-life rock god in the Shelter air guitar contest, which was broadcast onto big screens to hordes of screaming fans.

Up for grabs as first prize is a  Fender guitar, signed by famous Shelter supporters, among them Billy Bragg, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and several of the artists to play in the John Peel tent this year.

Keep your eyes 'Peeled' for the winning announcement soon.

Shelter will be back at the John Peel field next year, making even more noise! Click the images below for larger versions.
