Briefing: Homeless families and the benefit cap

Temporary accommodation (TA) is housing provided by local authorities under the legal duty they have towards homeless families. TA tends to be more expensive than normal private rented accommodation, which means households will struggle to cover the costs once the benefit cap comes into place, creating considerable difficulty for both local authorities and homeless families.
