By: Jim Bennett  Published: September 2001

Shelter responded in September 2001 to the consultation process on extending the priority need categories for homeless people, welcoming proposals as an important step for providing protection for groups who are most at risk of becoming homeless.

Summary

Shelter welcomes the opportunity to respond to the consultation process on extending the priority need categories for homeless people.

Shelter has strongly supported these proposals originally contained in the Housing Green Paper, later confirmed in 'The way forward for housing' as being an important and necessary step for providing protection for groups who are most at risk of becoming homeless.

We have comments on the scope of the new categories contained within the draft order. We also comment on the draft amendments to the Code of Guidance and the draft supplementary guidance.

Shelter comments in detail on:

  • the scope of the new categories
  • the draft amendments to the Code of Guidance
  • the draft supplementary guidance.
