As a national campaigning and advice charity, our work with MPs, peers and their researchers to change housing law is an important part of solving our clients’ housing problems.

Our public affairs team provides briefings on legislative and policy issues for parliamentarians and researchers, as well as access to a wide range of information that helps elected representatives and their caseworkers deal with constituency queries.

The Shelter public affairs team can help you with any requests for information or briefings. We are just an email or telephone call away whether you are looking for:

  • material for a speech
  • background information to help with casework
  • a briefing on a particular bill, amendment or policy issue

There is also a comprehensive online policy library, which you can search by subject and includes responses we have made to government consultations and Select Committee inquiries.

We are happy to meet with you in Parliament to discuss Shelter’s work, specific policy areas or housing related legislation as it arises. In addition, we can arrange visits to Shelter services in or near your constituency.

We provide help and advice directly to people with all kinds of housing problems. In addition to our free national helpline on 0808 800 4444 which constituents or caseworkers can use, we also have over 40 different advice centres and projects running across England.
