With young people across the country priced out of a home of their own, it’s no wonder that lots of them are turning to their parents for help.
Most young people can’t rely on ‘the Bank of Mum and Dad’. But even for those who can, the situation isn’t sustainable. Last year, parents gave their children an incredible £2 billion to help with a deposit on their first home.
This is having a real impact on families – with parents dipping into their retirement savings and cutting back on their own spending to help their kids. We need the government to meet these families halfway, by building more affordable homes.
