Couples who are experiencing problems with their relationship can approach a relationship counselling organisation to help with their difficulties.

People often lose their home because they have split up with a partner who they are living with. If you think you may become homeless because your relationship is not going well, a counselling organisation may be able to help you to understand what's going on in your relationship and change things for the better, or come to terms with splitting up.

You don't have to go to counselling as a couple - if your partner refuses to go, you can go on your own. The counsellors role is to listen, to encourage you to talk openly about your concerns, and help you reach your own decisions about the best way forward.

The largest relationship counselling organisation is Relate. It offers face-to-face counselling, or counselling over the phone or by email.

If you've already split up from your partner, mediation may help you to decide on things like what happens to the home and money matters.
