Sometimes having a home is not enough. If you need help or adaptations to stay in your home, or are considering moving to somewhere more suitable for your needs, this section will help you look at your options.
Getting the right support could help you to:
- maintain or increase independence (eg if you are an older person or a disabled person)
- set up home for the first time (eg if you are a young single parent or care leaver)
- tackle mental health, drug or alcohol issues
- avoid homelessness.
The rights you would have depend on the kind of accommodation you live in and, if you're renting, who your landlord is.
Getting needs assessed
If you are finding it difficult to manage at home, you can have an assessment of your needs carried out by the social services department to see what help you may require. This assessment is known as a community care assessment.
