The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia joined the EU in May 2004 and are often called 'A8' nations.
A8 nationals previously had restrictions on their rights to work and were required to register under something called the worker registration scheme, but since 1 May 2011 A8 nationals now have the same rights as any other workers from the EU and EEA.
For more information on your rights if you are from the A8, see our information for EU/ EEA nationals.
