Ask your next MP to commit to ending the housing emergency

Email your candidates about social housing

The housing emergency can’t wait. Unless the next government commits to providing more social housing, the number of people experiencing bad housing and homelessness will only continue to spiral.

But with the general election set for 12 December, we have an opportunity to make sure that the right to a safe, secure home is made a priority. All you need to do is join us in asking your parliamentary candidates to commit to ending the housing emergency now.

Social housebuilding is at a 70-year low

Government after government has failed to face up to our country’s need for genuinely affordable homes – it’s why we’re facing such a crisis. We must make sure that this time, instead of patching up the holes with poor-quality schemes, the new government tackles the issue head on.

An increase in social housing provision really is the only solution to make sure everyone has the chance to build a home in which their families can thrive. With a secure, long-term tenancy and the stability of locally affordable rent, people can put down roots and plan for the future – it’s the foundation that means people can stop putting their lives on hold.
