Help families and children find a safe and secure home

Nearly half of families with school-aged children living in temporary accommodation say they have had to move their child to a different school. And 52% reported that their child had missed days of school.

This is because 30% of temporary accommodation is out of the local area and people are often moved at short notice. This can cause a huge disruption to children’s education, job security, and family life.

Temporary accommodation is not a home. It can often mean:

  • families not knowing where they will be living from one week to the next

  • living in one room in cramped conditions sharing one bed between multiple people

  • being accommodated so far away, it's a struggle to get to school and work on time

  • families are disconnected from their friends, family, and support network

  • living in terrible conditions for months to years

This is traumatising children and damaging their health.

Negative impact on families and children

Around 126,000 households are homeless and living in temporary accommodation in England.

Many people in temporary accommodation do not have the essentials to live a healthy family life.

We can’t afford for more families to become homeless because of 'no fault' evictions and sky-high private rents. It’s costly to their health, children’s education and the wider economy.

We must campaign for better housing rights, to ensure housing rights are upheld, and more social homes are built.

We need your support now more than ever.

Donate now to stand with families and children facing homelessness.

Your donation won't be restricted to a single project but will be used wherever it's needed most to help those fighting for their right to a safe home.
