Donate to a Shelter shop

We are always grateful for donations to our Shelter shops; everything we receive helps us to do more for families facing bad housing and homelessness.

There are however a few things that sadly we're unable to take, and we'd hate for anyone to have a wasted journey to us, so please check the list below before donating your items.

What we accept

  • good quality second-hand clothes

  • books

  • CDs and DVDs

  • good quality ceramic tableware

  • good quality furniture*

  • electrical items*

*not available in all Shelter shops

What we can't accept

  • Items in poor condition

  • Damaged furniture

  • White goods

  • Upholstered items without a fire label

How to donate your goods

We welcome donations of good quality, second-hand items to all of our shops, and you can post your pre-loved goods to us for free.

You can drop off your items in person to our shops during opening hours. But if you have bulky items or a lot to donate, please do call ahead to make sure we will be able to accept your donation in store.

If space allows, our shops can occasionally accept donations of furniture. However, this depends on the individual store, so please phone ahead to check that we will be able to accept your donation.

You can also sign up online to add Gift Aid to your donations to your local Shelter shop.
