What we do

Home is a human right. It's our foundation and it's where we thrive. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency.

We exist to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.

Got a housing problem? We can help:

  • Locally
Our advice and support services offer one-to-one, personalised help with housing issues and homelessness.

  • Online
On our website, find expert information about everything from reclaiming your deposit to applying as homeless, or speak to an adviser over webchat.

  • Over the phone
Our free emergency helpline is open 365 days a year to answer calls from anyone struggling with a housing issue or homelessness.

  • Legal
Our solicitors provide free legal advice and attend court to help people who’ve lost their homes or are facing eviction.

If you need to talk to someone, we’ll do our best to help.

Campaigning for housing justice

Our campaigns

We work in communities to understand the problem and change the system. And we run national campaigns to fight for change at the top.

Research and policy

We carry out ground-breaking research to understand the UK’s housing problems and develop policies to solve them.

We work with the media to make sure the voices of those affected by the housing emergency are heard.

Press releases

Itʼs hard to breathe in the mornings. Each time I have a shower, I come back out and I feel dirty again. I went on Shelter’s website – I just started writing what I felt, sent some photos and that was it. From there, the whole thing just blew right open. They’ll do everything in their power to help you.

Last year, we helped millions of people like Andrew
