Laurie smiles into the camera as he sits with his cardboard box

Taking on a challenge with a difference, seven-year-old Laurie decided to raise money by spending a full 24 hours inside a cardboard box. Impressed with his determination, Laurie’s parents updated friends and family with his progress on social media, and soon sponsorships were rolling in!

Thanks to this kind support, Laurie woke up the next morning – still inside his box – having raised an amazing £500.

They held collections in the mosque, led street collections, and even hosted a very successful charity dinner event.

Jonathon Gibbs

Novice runner Jonathon set himself the ultimate challenge: running 30K a day for seven days straight, taking him from his home in Macclesfield all the way to our Hackney hub.

Starting an Instagram account to keep his supporters updated, Jonathon smashed his target and raised an incredible £7,500.

How your hard work makes a difference

‘I’ve got a lot of love for Shelter,’ says Paddy, a former rough sleeper who turned his life around after meeting Colette, one of our peer mentors.

It was Colette’s personal experience of overcoming addiction and homelessness that made Paddy believe he could do it, too.

‘I knew Colette wasn’t lying,’ he says. ‘The stuff she told me really resonated. I thought, well, if you’ve got clean and you’re doing what you’re doing, there’s still a chance for me.’

Now Paddy has a flat, a partner, and a baby – and he’s working for Shelter as part of our peer-mentoring programme.
