From facing homelessness to championing housing rights
The number of people sleeping rough in England has more than doubled since 2010.
A failure to invest in genuinely affordable social rent homes is resulting in a growing number of people homeless in temporary accommodation, and in some cases, ending up on the streets.
Two years ago, Ray was sleeping in a local park, and facing a long, difficult journey out of homelessness, while also experiencing sight loss.
On the days I slept rough, I went into survival mode. All I could focus on was making it through the night. I thought no one could help me – until someone told me about Shelter. They reassured me that I did have a right to somewhere to live and did everything they could to help.
